“Make a Wish Baby!” Do those lyrics ring a bell? They will when you see Ambrosia playing at the 16th Annual Rolando Street Fair on Sunday, March 25th. Their huge hits, “Biggest Part of Me,” “You’re the Only Woman,” and “How Much I Feel” will have the entire community dancing in the street!

The Rolando Street Fair has become a real music event in San Diego. Band Coordinator Stephanie Bonner continues to use her influence to attract big names and local favorites to our event. In addition to Ambrosia, the music line-up includes Lee Coulter, Steph Johnson, Cathryn Beeks, and Len Rainey and the Midnight Players.

Over 100 vendor booths and non-profit community organizations will entice you with delicious food, hand-made items, and services. In addition, there is a Kid’s Corner with rides and activities.

The Rolando Community Council (RCC) produces this event. Financial support of over $10,000 from the San Diego City Arts and Culture Commission and Marti Emerald’s 7th District Council Office make it possible. We salute both offices for supporting this celebration of our community. We also recognize our partners in production, the College Area Business Improvement District and the College Neighborhoods Foundation. They too are essential. And finally, our thanks to the many Rolando volunteers whose hard work makes this event a success year after year. It wouldn’t happen without you.

More volunteers are needed on the day of the Street Fair and to distribute advance flyers and posters. No, not that District 9! San Diego’s Redistricting Commission this week voted unanimously to approve a map that redraws the San Diego City Council’s eight districts creating a new ninth district.

According to the filing statement the new boundaries are effective 30 days after adoption. Details of representation are unclear but councilmembers might start representing their new districts in December of 2012. Marti Emerald has announced she will run for re-election in district nine next year.

The map below shows the boundaries of District 9 adopted August 25, 2011. The boundaries were exported from the incredibly difficult to use San Diego redestricting tool at ESRI.

I took this photo a year ago yesterday. What a beautiful place we live in. I’m a little sad to see the summer go but that’s not really much of a change here in San Diego. The days just get shorter and the nights a bit cooler. Here’s to a great Autumn!

Starting June 1, 2009, Water Department customers will be required to:

• Water lawns and landscape only between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
• Water only three times a week from June through October.
• Know their watering days:
  • Homes with odd-numbered addresses can water: Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday
  • Homes with even-numbered addresses can water: Saturday, Monday & Wednesday
  • Apartments, Condos and Businesses can water: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
  • Standard lawn sprinklers can water: Only 10 minutes.

• When taking their car to a car wash, use only those that recycle their water.
• Wash their cars at home between 6 p.m. & 10 a.m. only, and use a bucket and a hose with a shut-off nozzle.

Dear Rolando neighbors,

[singlepic=18,320,240,,right]We are all saddened by the sudden passing of Doris Perry, who has been the heart and soul of the Rolando Community Council for so many years.  Out of respect for her family and many friends in Rolando, we will not be holding the upcoming meeting of the Rolando Community Council scheduled for this Tuesday, September 16th.

In lieu of flowers, Doris’ family has asked that those who wish to contribute consider making a donation to The Disabled Services Advisory Council of the San Diego City Park and Recreation Department (619) 525-8247 or to the Kroc Center Theater Scholarship Program (619) 287-5762.  Arrangements are pending, and we will share information with you as soon as it is available.
